Andrew Tounsend

It is with regret that we have to announce that Andy passed away late January after a very long period of illness.

Although not a member of the club for some time, over the last 30 or so years he showed that you can take wargaming both as irrelevant, and at the same time, far too seriously.

He could take the loss of half of his army with a shrug of his shoulders and a "oh well" or conversley launch the dice with great velocity across the room like the shrapnel that caused the casualties in the first place.

About ten of his wargaming buddies went to sent him off, and it was decided that a set of rules he described as "crap" be burned, and the resulting ashes placed withing a Bren Gun Carrier, to be used as the prize for the Andy Tounsend Memorial Ashes Cup, given to the player that most typifies Andy....unlucky with tthe dice and a true Yorkshireman.

Black Powder Rules (or does it?)

We have now been playing the Black Powder Rules from Warlord Games for a few weeks now and like some adulterous liaison; the initial explosion of enthusiasm has dissipated to be replaced by confusion, guilt and recrimination.

Rob S still gives them the thumbs up. The rules are not too complex which is ideal for a man of his intellect, plus they are fast playing which is perfect for a club night game. Bob M on the other hand has a different view: He has taken issue with the prose of the book which has to be said is written in a very “unique” style. He also has some real problems with the rules themselves which he eloquently communicated by way of innumerable mutterings and tutting during play. Mick is still uncontroversially undecided. Though not as enthusiastic about the rules as he was initially, Mick concedes that they need to be played a bit more before final judgement is handed down. John S appears to like them but to be fair he is easily pleased and will smile benignly  as long as he is rolling dice and killing stuff!.

For those of you planning to compe to Fiasco on the 31st October 2010 (and if you're not why not!?) The show is still at the armouries but at their new hospitality suite Savilles. This is not part of the main museum building but just across the way. (it's very posh). This map shows were exactly it is - MAP

Uncharted Seas

Confirmation that Orc's are rubbish sailors has been recieved following thew poor performance of Rob and Andy's Orc raiders against Brian's Shroud Mages. Perhaps it had something to do with Andy 'Where have all my ships gone' tactics of ramming larger enemy ships with smaller ones without trying to kill some crew first. As it was several ships managed to kill each other and the Orc's didn't come off too badly - we lost by 3 Frigates.

Rules nice and simple and very bloody. Mr Judd has already vowed to get a Dwarf fleet, as has Mr swift and I'm sure that Ian can be bullied, sorry, persuaded, to get some undead.

Mr Smith even put on his glasses to have a closer look....
